Portable electronic ear irrigation for professional cerumen removal

The Bionix OtoClear 7280 Portable Electronic Ear Irrigation System is designed for professional ear irrigation in urgent-care centers, ENT practices, primary-care offices, pediatric clinics, and other healthcare settings.

The rechargeable system provides automated pulsed irrigation through a self-contained 278 mL water reservoir. Its electronic pressure-control system offers Low, Medium, and High settings, allowing the healthcare professional to select an appropriate flow level for the procedure.

The 7280 configuration includes the portable electronic irrigator, 40 single-use OtoClear irrigation tips, one ear basin, and one 110V charging adapter.

Three-stream OtoClear tip design

Each OtoClear tip delivers three divergent streams of water toward the walls of the ear canal instead of directing the flow straight toward the tympanic membrane.

The soft, flexible tip has a flared design that helps prevent over-insertion and supports drainage into the included basin. The exit portals are designed to reduce splashback while allowing irrigation fluid and loosened debris to leave the ear canal.

OtoClear tips are single-use and must be discarded after each patient procedure.

Electronic pressure control

The portable irrigator provides three selectable pressure settings:

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High

The selected setting can be changed during operation. The system delivers pulsed irrigation and is recommended by the manufacturer for healthcare facilities that perform higher volumes of ear-irrigation procedures.

Rechargeable portable operation

The irrigator includes a rechargeable battery and a 110V charging adapter.

The charging indicator displays red while charging and blue when the battery is fully charged. The manufacturer’s instructions specify approximately four hours for a complete charge.

Its self-contained design allows the system to be moved between treatment rooms without requiring a permanent water connection during operation.

Self-contained water reservoir

The integrated reservoir holds approximately 278 mL of water.

The reservoir should be filled with warm water at approximately body temperature. The official OtoClear instructions specify a water range of approximately 98°F to 104°F / 37°C to 40°C. Hot or cold water should not be used because it may cause dizziness or vertigo.

The irrigator should be primed before the procedure, and all remaining water should be drained after use.

Professional ear-care applications

The OtoClear system is indicated for patients six months of age or older with impacted cerumen or foreign bodies occluding the ear canal when infection or tympanic-membrane perforation is not known or suspected.

An otoscopic examination should be performed before irrigation to assess the ear canal, tympanic membrane, type of obstruction, and suitability for irrigation.

The system is intended for professional use only.

Cleaning and maintenance

After each procedure:

  • Dispose of the single-use OtoClear tip.
  • Empty the reservoir.
  • Operate the irrigator briefly to drain remaining water.
  • Clean and dry the device according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Allow all components to dry completely before storage.

The main unit must not be submerged. Bionix recommends general cleaning with mild dishwashing detergent and warm water and provides a separate compatibility guide for approved disinfectant ingredients.

The removable wand should be cleaned after use and replaced according to the interval specified in the operating instructions.
